Conflict Resolution - a win-win framework for resolving conflict
In North America, we live in a society which often sees resolution of conflict as a win-lose prospect, but throughout the world, many societies successfully use an alternative dispute resolution process in place of our 'win-lose' framework, one that sees those in conflict moving away from their positions and towards their interests instead, creating a win-win experience for all. Within this more equitable structure of resolving conflict, feelings are heard and acknowledged, values explored, a safe vessel in which to hold pain and emotion, one that paves the way for collaborative and creative solutions. A conflict resolution or restorative process is gathering support around the world and is helping to shape the way we choose to resolve conflict. Isn't it time we looked outside the preverbal box?
Applications of alternative dispute resolution:
• Interpersonal conflict • Workplace conflict • Family and custody issues • Injustice (social, medical harm, criminal) • Medically induced trauma • Issues within organizations
Does this type of dispute resolution resonate with you?
I use a widely accepted six-step, interest-based conflict resolution method with a restorative component to help others solve conflict. If you're interested in using this alternative method for dispute resolution in issues of injustice or harm, I'd like to help.
