For millenniums, people around the world have seen the concept of 'circle' sprinkled heavily in their collective consciousness; coming full circle, never ending circle, protective, healing, sacred, the moon and sun, the universe, the heavens, the self. And it’s not surprising that art within the boundary of a circle is used the world over, providing a frame of sorts, that is thought to grow out the urge to "know oneself and one’s place in the cosmos.”
Creating mandalas as art therapy can be a wonderful activity for centering, meditation, emotional expression, and self-soothing. Many people find the process of drawing and filling in the mandala to be very calming. In addition, the structure of the circle serves both to provide a sense of containment to decrease anxiety. This form of creative expression is a micro self-portrait of the what’s going on in the drawer’s world at that very moment.
Creating a mandala couldn’t be simpler; using a circle as a boundary, fill it in with lines, patterns, text and color (or maybe not); the choice is up to you! Come into our safe and creative environment and let the mandala making begin!
